The defending champions, will Team Liquid be able to defend the Aegis this year?
Team Liquid, the only team that doesn’t seem to have been hit by the TI winner curse. In the Dota 2 community, the TI winner curse is when a team underperforms, or in some cases, completely becomes useless after a victory at The International. This has been long proven over the years, and some teams even got disbanded. But Team Liquid has preserved and the curse hasn’t hit them.
Even though they only won one Major this year, the China Dota 2 Supermajor, they still made it to the second position on the Dota Pro Circuit. It is all thanks to their hard work and consistency, which gave them five victories in the Minors and a consistent positioning at other tournaments.
Team Liquid is still in its top form. All the five players of them team have been performing really well. Kuroky even reached the milestone of 1000 Dota 2 victories this season.
The Shot at the Aegis:
Even though Liquid did not win a single Major this season, their consistency kept them at the top. The players definitely don’t seem to have lost any of their passion and neither do they seem to be slacking off. The players are much more like friends than colleagues, which will definitely play in their favour. That being said, they have really strong contenders in PSG.LGD and Virtus.Pro. They have lost to both the teams on multiple occasions, and both of them have lost to Team Liquid on multiple occasions as well.
If Team Liquid want to hold on to the Aegis, their gameplay is going to have to be on point. The team is known to work well under pressure as well. No team has ever defended the Aegis or won a TI twice, so it is going to be a strong motivation for Team Liquid. All on all, their chances look bright, but the road will be tough.
