Todd Howard has said that millions of players still play Skyrim every month.
Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is perhaps one of the best selling video games ever. It is also one of the longest running video game with an active community. Released in 2011, the game still has a bustling community of players and modders. So much so that the new mods for the game are released to this day. But that’s not all, there are also new ports of the game. The game has been ported to every device including the Nintendo Switch. Even Bethesda is in on the joke, as we know from E3 when Todd Howard announced the Very Special Edition.
If you don’t know, Skyrim Very Special Edition is a Skyrim game for Alexa. The game’s massive success is also represented in the fact that Todd Howard reported the game gets a million players every month on Skyrim. In an interview with Gamindustry.biz at Gamelab in Barcelona, Todd Howard said, “Even now, the amount of people who play Skyrim seven years later; millions of people every month are playing that game”.
The fact can be reflected in Steam’s list of top 100 best selling games so far. Skyrim made it to the list, as well as The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim VR.
And this is only the PC. The game still has players across every platform: Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Even though Todd Howard said it jokingly, it made sense when he said, “If you want us to stop releasing it, stop buying it.”
Even after almost 7 years, the game is earning them big money. This could be one of the reasons why we will not be getting Elder Scrolls VI anytime soon. But if you do want to play a new Elder Scrolls title, be on the lookout for The Elder Scrolls: Blades which will release on mobile.
