God of War sold over 3.1 million copies in 3 days, Sony revealed in their PlayStation blog.
When it came out at E3 2018, God of War immediately created news. Fans were ecstatic, and so was the media. The last time we saw Kratos was in 2013 in God of War: Ascension. He was coming back after five long years.
And what a comeback it has been. God of War has become the highest user rated game of all time on Metacritic. On the day of its release it became the highest rated PS4 game on Metacritic.
And now, Sony has reported that God Of War has become their fastest selling PS4 exclusive, with more than 3.1 million units sold in 3 days, from April 20-22. The game has beat the likes of The Last of Us (3.4 million copies in 3 weeks), and Horizon Zero Dawn (2.6 million copies in two weeks) by quite a large margin.
Santa Monica Studio head Shannon Studstill sent out a personal message, saying:
“I would like to personally thank the millions of fans around the world who decided to embark on Kratos’ latest adventure with us. Your support is truly inspiring, and it’s a reason why we push ourselves every day to go beyond the boundaries of play. I’d also like to thank our Creative Director, Cory Barlog, and Director of Product Development, Yumi Yang and our entire amazing team at Santa Monica Studio. The belief in the game’s vision and the passion for storytelling across the team is undeniable. We look forward to hearing more about how fans are creating new memories of their favorite God of War gameplay moments that will be remembered for a long time.”
The latest edition of God Of War is being touted as one of the best games ever made, and many say that it is in the league of The Witcher 3 and Mass Effect 2.
This instalment has been quite different from the previous ones, as it is more cinematic and has shifted completely from the Greek mythology to Norse Mythology. There is also a change in Kratos’ personality, as he isn’t the same bloodthirsty, revenge-seeking Spartan we know him to be.
