Sonic Mania Plus is the physical version of last year’s throwback game with the same name, Sonic Mania. It will come boxed with various goodies and new in-game content, and Sega has told us when.
At this year’s South By South West, Sega held a panel for their upcoming release, where they teased what is believed to be a new sonic racing game. They also revealed that they would be releasing a physical version of their throwback game, Sonic Mania. This physical version will be called Sonic Mania Plus.
Sega revealed that Sonic Mania Plus will release on July 17th this year. They dropped a new trailer, that showed the gameplay trailer for the two new characters, Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel. These characters are not available in the last year’s digital release, Sonic Mania.
Sonic Mania Plus will come with holographic packaging, a 32-page art book, and a reversible cover that gives it a Sega Genesis style cover packaging. In the game, apart from the two new characters, Sonic Mania Plus will have a new Encore mode and an expanded four player competition mode. Sega had also earlier announced a partnership with Puma via their Twitter:
“Sonic and @PUMA are teaming up! We’ll have more on this awesome collab soon.”

They will be releasing Sonic-inspired sneakers in June, possibly as a promotion for their teased game, which could be a follow up to Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing.
Sonic Mania was a hit game which took us back to Sega’s 16-bit days. Matt Espineli from Gamespot called it the best Sonic game ever in his review. Since then, fans had been demanding a physical version of the game, and Sega obliged. If you are a true Sonic fan and are into collectibles, be sure not to miss out on it.
