The most popular game on Twitch right now is getting its own scholarship! The ‘build’ never seem to stop for this game.
Fortnite Battle Royale scholarships are going to be available in the US soon. This is going to be the first time that the wildly popular Battle Royale game is having a scholarship based on its own venture. The news is from Ohio’s Ashland University who announced that they will be giving scholarship grants to rightful students.
If a student is excelling both academically and in gaming, he will be eligible. That being said, there is still no concrete ‘esports’ event for the game. However, it’s still the most popular battle royale game in the world as of the moment, so it’s only a matter of time till they get their own.
Players will have head coaches to guide each student athlete.
An interview with Variety has stated that the head coach will be Josh Buchanan, and that he has knowledge and background on Starcraft II esports. He will be teaching students how to deal with time management. Transforming gamers into the best shape of their life by creating time schedules that fit their needs for training and academic needs. ”
“As part of the program, you’re going to have coaches and a staff dedicated to helping you succeed — not only in the game but also in your academics,” – Josh Buchanan (Credits to Variety)
This will help students balance it out and make sure that they will also have a social life other than video games. Therefore, this coming 2018 semester, Ashland Eagles will be holding tryouts to see who is deserving of the scholarship. The coaches will also be guiding the students on other games such as Counter Strike, Overwatch and League of Legends. Another good news for the gaming and education community. Hooray for video games and studies!
