This has got to be the most ambitious crossover between cultures.
And by cultures, we meant pop music and gaming.
Have you listened to Chun-Li yet?
American rapper Nicki Minaj has just released two new tracks today. What’s intriguing for gamers and geeks is the title for one of her songs — Chun-Li.
Chun-Li is a trap song that uses a popular character from Street Fighter as its title. It doesn’t really tell much about the first female fighter in the series, but it is mentioned in a few verses.
Some of the lines from the song goes like:
Ayo, I been off, Lara been Croft
Plates say Chun-Li, drop the Benz off
and
They need rappers like me, they need rappers like me
So they can get on their f***ing keyboards and make me the bad guy, Chun-Li
The track came out together with another song entitled Barbie Tingz. In addition to that, a collaboration with co-rapper Young Thug was also made available today entitled Anybody.
Ever heard of ‘Nicki Day?’
Fans have been claiming this release to be the start of a new Minaj era of music.
As a matter of fact, #NickiDay went on trending worldwide on Twitter as fans excitedly share their sentiments to the worldwide release of Chun-Li and Barbie Tingz.
The official Street Fighter Twitter account (@StreetFighter) showed their support by tweeting a GIF of the female fighter to the hashtag. The tweet says:
