Monster Hunter: World smashed one of the most important sales record. It is now Capcom’s best selling video game of all time!
With just two months in, Monster Hunter: World has already shipped 7.5 million units including physical and digital copies on PS4 and Xbox One, with a PC release on its way. Switch users are also hoping for a Monster Hunter: World *fingers crossed*. It was a total hit for 2018 – Capcom just announced that Monster Hunter: World is their best selling title in history.
Monster Hunter: World topped the charts followed by Mega Man, Street Fighter and Resident Evil. It is said to be “the first title in the series to be given a global simultaneous launch, and was given an ambitious worldwide promotional campaign in order to further build upon its fan base both in Japan and in markets overseas,” according to Capcom’s news release.
Why did Monster Hunter: World become such a big hit?
Monster Hunter series is a hunting action game where players take down giant monsters in a fantasy place. This game started a craze called “Monster Hunter Craze” where it became a social phenomenon because of having a new way of communication style for players when hunting monsters with friends. 14 years ago, the first Monster Hunter title had accumulated a solid and dedicated fan base. It became a mega-hit with more than 48 million units sold as of March 5, 2018.
Overall, Monster Hunter: World has a rating of 10/10 via TrustedReviews, 9/10 for Polygon and 90% for Metacritic. Add the fact that it has already shipped 7.5 millions of copies within 2 months of being officially released. It is said to be “one of the most consistently exciting, satisfying, and gratifyingly absurd games (we’ve) played.” according to IGN’s UK News Editor, Joe Skrebels.
