Aside from Swain’s dark rework in Patch 8.3, Riot took the opportunity to change lores of three of the most known Noxian figures in the game.
Alongside a dark origin of an orphaned child Annie, the lores of these three Noxian personalities – Darius, LeBlanc and Katarina – have close resemblance to Swain, though Katarina’s was a bit inclined to the city rather than the leader.
Darius was a well-known general of Noxus, rivaled of Demacia’s Garen Crownguard. Before rising in the top ranks of the Noxian Army, he was an orphan who joined Jericho Swain’s cause. Little by little, he became who he was today: one of Swain’s top ranking generals.
In his story, though, Darius attempted to betray Swain but failed. His testament said of being in control of a “pale white sorceress”, someone capable of deceiving people and leading them to conjured illusions. That sorceress Darius mentioned turned out to be LeBlanc, who held a grudge against his master Swain.
LeBlanc leads the secret society Black Rose, a group of magic users that rival the Noxian Grand General. This group is the same cult that led Elise to the spider’s curse. Using her power of deception and illusion, LeBlanc used Swain’s top general Darius to kill him, but failed to do so.
Katarina Du Coteau is a member of the Du Coteau family, a group of nobles settled in Noxus. In her old lore, Katarina attempted to kill the Demacian general but failed to do so; she was scratched then in battle, leaving a scar in her left eye.
Her new bio is inclined to the city rather than the leader Swain. In her new bio, Katarina is a noble assassin who, on one of her missions, failed to kill her target. This brought shame to the Du Coteau family, and because of this, she placed herself in exile.
Annie’s bio showed her being a child of two mages, thus giving her the ability to conjure fire. However, her Origins video shows otherwise.
Annie is a member of a family of four: her mother, father and sister. They lived happily until one day, Annie found a teddy bear who she called Tibbers. Turns out, Tibbers is a cursed doll with dark powers. Annie – or Tibbers – became the reason her sister drowned in the river while playing, their house catching fire which took his father’s life, and her mother soon after. Tragic as it may seem, “when the flames died down and the swirl of ash settled, Annie was left orphaned and alone”.
These lores went live before Swain’s rework and can be seen in their character backgrounds.
