“The largest multi-title esports league in the Philippines.” Dota 2 (desktop), Tekken 7 (console), and a mobile game soon to be announced will be showcased in this nationwide esports tournament. Expectations are set high as these are some of the games that draws the biggest crowd in the country. With Philippines having its esports fans well-known around the globe and adding previous MPGLs which sure got PH gamers’ attention and participation, PPGL sure has big shoes to fill.
“Globe is once again embarking on a pioneering effort. After becoming the purveyor of digital lifestyle and redefining how Filipinos consume entertainment, we are set to put the Philippines on the map of gaming and eSports together with MET by launching Globe PPGL 2018,” said Ernest Cu, President and CEO of Globe Telecom. “We look forward to taking esports to greater heights, and develop world-class esports talents in the country,” added Cu.

A First-Of-Its-Kind Esports Television Program
What piqued a lot of enthusiasts’ interest is their statement regarding PPGL’s coverage. The tournament itself will be broadcast online via livestream but the documentary-style production is another thing. The documentary will be putting the players’ life stories and struggles under the microscope in hope to shed more light about esports into the wider audience. In the Philippines where tournaments are rarely featured on free television, this is something we will look forward to.
