PUBG on PS4? CEO clarifies where PUBG is at the moment.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is the hottest game right now. The game broke its own record recently and amassed 3 million concurrent players. Seeing the massive popularity of the game, devs at PUBG Corp. decided to release it on Xbox One. The game even has a mobile version published in China by Tencent.
But soon, PS4 maybe able to play the game too, as CEO of PUBG Corp is keen to see the game on every platform.
In an interview with Inven Global Chang Han Kim, CEO of PUBG Corp, said, “as it’s going to be an exclusive title on Xbox One for some time, we’d like to focus on completing the Xbox One PUBG for now. If we have the opportunity, the final goal would be to launch the title on every platform.”
Why the delay?
The only thing keeping them from releasing it on PS 4 is Sony’s strict policy on early access games. Unlike Xbox and Steam they do not allow the games on their platforms. “Early Access on Steam and Game Preview on Xbox One are like pre-release, so they don’t have a restriction on quality. However, PS is very strict about this. There were cases where a game took 6 months more to launch even when it was already completed. We are still in the stage of learning the console development environment and console gamers’ taste. We need to think about other platforms after evaluating and completing the Xbox One version first,” Kim further added.
This might not be such a bad thing after all. Though immensely popular on Xbox, the game is mired with bad reviews online. PUBG on Xbox isn’t running on 30 FPS, averaging around 25 fps on base console and 27 FPS on its more powerful 4k counterpart according to Digital Foundry.
