There were great games, and good games. However, there were also games that disappointed us.
Special thanks to the reviews coming from Metacritic, Forbes, and IGN.
The video games in 2017 are great. Well, most of them. A little disclaimer about this article is that this is not to belittle what the developers worked on. In addition, this is not criticize them over the edge. In fact, this is to recognize some of the games in 2017 that we had high hopes for, but got something a little bit – “different”. That being said, here’s Gamegeek’s list of the top 5 games that have disappointed us (and the critics) in 2017!
Top 5. Tattoo Girls (PS Vita)
Basically the story develops from the aftermath of something horrible. You as the main character garnered powers from your tattoos. Sounds interesting? Yes. However, the plot is “wasted” due to stories that were lackluster and some that you’d rather skip then make the game confusing.
Top 4. Wolfenstein II: The new Colossus (Xbox one, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4)
Ah yes, expectations could be great or it could kill the entire series. This is the thing that happened to the Wolfenstein game. Due to the popularity of the first game, it got bad reviews saying it was rushed. People find it tiring to pick up health packs or just do anything that was either the same from the last game, or worse. It just didn’t meet the expectations of the people.
Top 3. Rugby 18 (PS4)
Fundamentals, game mechanics, and other small details that make rugby one of the most awesome sports are missing from the game. Criticized by its unfavorable components that were missing from the game, Rugby 18 could have really been better with just the right amount of juice from Maximum Games.
Top 2. Destiny 2 (Ps4, Xbox One, PC)
This is a hard one as it is as catastrophic as our number 1 pick. Catastrophic in a sense that the expectations that got formed from the hype of the game trailers and marketing materials were not met. It’saddening to see that not only critics but the players are expecting more from what the game turned out to be. Still, some people say it’s brilliant, it just could be better.
Welp, you guys probably know who’s number 1.
Top 1. Starwars Battlefront II (Ps4, Xbox One, PC)
Loot Boxes. Controversial Cases. Reviews about being hard to play. Everything that’s wrong within a game is almost met by Dice’s latest creations. Couple with the high hopes that the game has managed to create. Disappointed? That could be an understatement. Star wars fans, Battlefield fans, and even casual gamers have not been very fond of this game. Well, I guess not as much as the first Battlefront. That one was a classic.
